Import logistics in Nepal: freight forwarding and customs clearance
Trade House Nepal brings imported goods into the country and clears them through customs. Logistics here means two things. The first arranges the transport of your goods from an overseas supplier to Nepal. The second handles the customs work that gets a consignment released once it arrives. You can use either one on its own, or both alongside sourcing. Nothing is booked, bought or paid for on this website.
Import freight forwarding to Nepal
Freight forwarding means arranging the movement of your goods from where they are made to where you need them. Trade House Nepal books the carriage and keeps the paperwork moving between your supplier, the carrier and you.
What you send us. The supplier’s name and location, a description of the goods, the packed weight and dimensions, and the town in Nepal where they have to arrive. A commercial invoice and a packing list from the supplier is enough to start. If the order is not placed yet, tell us the product and the quantity instead.
What we do. We compare sea, air and overland routing for that consignment and explain the trade-off between them. We arrange collection from the supplier and book the space. A smaller order does not need a full container of its own: we consolidate it with other cargo, so a modest quantity is still worth importing. Door-to-door arrangements are available where the route allows.
What you get back. A routing plan and a quotation for that shipment. Transit time depends on the origin, the mode and the season, so it is confirmed for your shipment rather than promised in advance.
Customs clearance for imported consignments
Customs clearance is the work that gets an imported consignment released at the border or the airport. It is document work against a deadline. The declaration has to be correct, and the goods wait until it is.
What you send us. The shipping documents that came with the consignment, which normally means the commercial invoice, the packing list and the transport document, together with your firm’s import registration details. If the goods need a permit or a certificate from another government body, raise it at the start rather than after the consignment has landed.
What we do. We classify the goods under the customs tariff, prepare the import declaration papers, work out the duty and tax that fall due, and see the consignment through the customs office until it is released.
What you get back. Released goods and the document file for that consignment, which you keep for your own accounts. Duty and tax are set by the tariff and by the declared value of the goods, not by us. We tell you what falls due on your consignment rather than naming a figure in advance.
Sourcing and logistics, or either on its own
Sourcing and shipping are often two separate arrangements: one firm finds the goods, another brings them in. Trade House Nepal does both, so you can use it either way.
If you already have a supplier, we handle only the movement and the clearance. You keep the supplier relationship, and we take over once the goods are ready to ship.
If you do not have a supplier yet, we source first. You send a requirement, we come back with options, and we bring in whatever you approve. Because one company holds the whole line, you are not handing the job to a second firm halfway through.
Both logistics services are about goods coming into Nepal from abroad. Storage and domestic distribution are not sold as services in their own right.
Common questions about importing
- Does Trade House Nepal handle logistics as well as sourcing?
- Trade House Nepal runs two service lines: product sourcing, and import logistics. The logistics line covers import freight forwarding — bringing a consignment from an overseas supplier into Nepal by sea, air or overland — and customs clearance once it arrives. The two lines are separate, so you can use either on its own or both on the same consignment, and Trade House Nepal quotes for the scope you actually need.
- Do you act as a custom clearance agent in Nepal?
- Trade House Nepal handles the customs clearance step on an import consignment: preparing the import declaration and the document set behind it, taking the duty and tax assessment through to a decision, and getting the consignment released. Clearance is worked against your own commercial documents, so the classification and the assessed duty follow what the consignment actually is. Who is named on the declaration, and how the filing is made, is settled with you before the goods move, because it follows from how you bought them.
- How does customs clearance on an import actually work?
- Trade House Nepal works an import clearance on documents rather than on the goods alone. Customs assesses the consignment against the paperwork it travels with — the commercial invoice, the packing list, the transport document — and applies the classification that paperwork supports. The buyer's decisions bite upstream: how a supplier describes and invoices the goods sets that classification, and a description that does not match the boxes stalls a consignment. Trade House Nepal reviews the document set, files the declaration, and confirms duty and tax against the current tariff rather than publishing figures.
- Can Trade House Nepal ship goods it did not source?
- Trade House Nepal keeps the two service lines separate, so a consignment it did not source can still be moved and cleared. If you have already bought from an overseas supplier and only need the goods brought into Nepal and released at customs, Trade House Nepal can take the consignment from the supplier's location or the origin port onwards. Send the shipment details and the commercial documents you already hold, and Trade House Nepal comes back with routing options and what clearance will involve.
- What if my shipment is too small to fill a container?
- Trade House Nepal consolidates smaller import shipments, so a quantity that cannot fill a container on its own can still move by sea instead of being pushed onto air freight. Consolidation means your goods share a movement with other consignments, and each consignment is still cleared against its own documents on arrival. Whether consolidation or a direct movement suits you depends on volume, weight and how soon you need the goods, so Trade House Nepal recommends a route after seeing the shipment details.
- What does Trade House Nepal not handle on the logistics side?
- Trade House Nepal's logistics line is inbound: moving an import consignment from an overseas origin into Nepal and clearing it at customs, including delivery to your address as the last leg of a consignment Trade House Nepal is already carrying. Trade House Nepal does not sell domestic transport, distribution or warehousing as services in their own right. Goods already inside Nepal, and goods that need holding somewhere, fall outside what Trade House Nepal takes on.
